what are you willing to give up to achieve your goals

Every considerable achievement is often preceded by sacrifice. The importance of sacrifice en route to success cannot be downplayed. Oftentimes, it constitutes the difference between the successful man and the not-so-successful man. The former made sacrifices that the latter couldn’t or wouldn’t make.  Of course, from our vantage point, we may not know the sacrifices some of world’s renowned success stories had to make to get to the zenith of their dreams or what they had to give up to facilitate the achievement of their dreams. Success after all is no accident. As the Brazilian football legend Pele aptly remarked; it is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love for what you are doing.

The two- success and sacrifices are analogous one to the other. Sure enough, as Christians, Christ’s sacrifice has made us success (for he didn’t die to raise up weaklings!). And as such, there are pertinent questions you must ask yourself, as you seek to walk in the realisation of your inheritances. As you ask these questions, you must deduce if your current path is leading to this realisation?

Question: 1 would success (as you are!) watch T.V and consume social media from sun up to sun down?

Not unless he works there! Don’t get me wrong, I am neither against T.V nor social media (with accounts in at least three different platforms, how could I be?). But when you dedicate the bulk of your time, and allow the motions to take the ascendancy in your thoughts, insomuch that you cannot attend to more important things, then there’s a problem. Unless your job requires you to watch T.V (I love your job!) or utilise social media platforms, then you shouldn’t spend an entire day there. Your time is much too important, to invest in trivialities. And, you simply cannot waste valuable time and expect to occupy the very zenith of life’s echelons. It just doesn’t work that way.

Question 2: Would success (again, as you are!) give up that ‘friend’ who doesn’t contribute anything positive to the attainment of His goals?

Yes…. And speedily too. That fellow who draws you back rather than spur you forward and leaves you feeling unmotivated and incapable after every conversation shouldn’t be your friend. Your friend ought to bring out the best in you, and encourage you to better your best every single time. Your friend ought to inspire you and aid in the achievement of your dreams. Think of it, would you rather have only a few friends and be successful, than a plethora of friends and be a failure? As the amazing Jelisa surmises ‘It’s okay to love all people but it’s very important that you “qualify” your inner circle. Everybody isn’t qualified to get close to you. They need to mirror where you are in life or be operating at an even greater capacity’. I couldn’t put it better.

Question 3: Would success sacrifice a couple of hours sleep to get stuff done?

Absolutely yes! As Eris Thomas observed, ‘Broke people sleep. You got to be willing to sacrifice sleep, if you sleep you may miss the opportunity to be successful’. Slightly hard-core views from Eric, but valid nonetheless. No less than I mentioned in this post, Google any variation of ‘the sleeping habits of the successful’ and you should the idea.

These are only a few of the key questions you must ask yourself en route to achieving your goals. The most important decision about your goals, as Dave Ramsey opined, is not what you are willing to do to achieve them, but, what you are willing to give up.

And, the consonant question I ask: What is success willing to give up in the achievements of his dreams? What are you willing to sacrifice in the achievement of your dreams?

Until next time.
